A day at the Twin Towers..

WTC, Manhattan

New York CityPass

The city was 'discovered' by Henry Hudson in 1609.
Manhattan was bought from the natives for Dollar 24 (Rs.1250 approx) worth of trinkets in 1626.
The city was officially founded as New Amsterdam by the Dutch in 1653.
The city changed its name to New York when the English defeated the Dutch in 1664.
The city was renamed New Orange when the Dutch took it back in 1673.
The city was again renamed New York as the Dutch yielded control to the English in 1674.
The subways opened beneath Manhattan in 1870.
The Brooklyn bridge was opened in 1883.
The Statue of Liberty was unveiled in 1886.

The towers can be seen from almost any part of the ny city. View from Brooklyn.
for people travelling in the lower manhattan (known as downtown) the towers act like compasses showing you the way..
On to the Brooklyn Bridge.
You can see the Twin Towers on the left and the Brooklyn Bridge on the right.
The Brooklyn Bridge starts.
This is the pedestrian crossing from Brooklyn to Manhattan. On both sides you have the vehicle crossings.
walking on.. and on
It was a warm sunny day then......
The pride of Downtown Manhattan
the twins New Yorkers loved to the core..
near the middle of the bridge
some people climb to the top of the Brooklyn Bridge and threaten to jump into the Hudson River below.....only to create problems for the cops.
Kids by the fountain in front of the twin towers.
We used to come and sit here a lot, especially during Dips' pregnancy
In Front of 2, World trade Center
The building in the background is the Marriott Hotel which was also destroyed.
The two cows you see are the "twin cows" belonging to the "Cow Parade" representing the two towers.
Sight Seeing Buses
Some of these buses were found melted in the debris of the wtc. The building in the background is 7, World Trade Center, which was also destroyed along with the twin towers. Photo taken from the center of the WTC complex.
Looking at the giant's face from it's foot.
Those were the most magnificent buildings we have ever seen.It seems like a personal loss when we try to digest the fact that they are just "GONE"
In the lounge of 2 WTC
The observation deck is (was) in 2 WTC. We could go to the 107th floor with a 7 Dollar tkt and also to the terrace of the building. Displayed in the back are the flags of all the nations in the world.
A model of downtown Manhattan kept in the observation deck on 2 wtc.
As you can see, the towers were about three times taller than all the other buildings in the area. So you can understand the magnitude of the void left behind by them
The lift to the "Windows of the World"
The lift is for the top towers only. That is why you don't see 110 buttons!
View from the observation deck on 2 WTC
on the left is 1 WTC
Telescopes kept on the observation deck
The whole city and the surrounding areas were visible from here.
The part north of where you stand is called "uptown" and towards south is called "downtown".
